Car Shaking 1997 Oldsmobile 88

Asked by: 29 views Driving Question

I have a 1997 Oldsmobile 88. The problem is when I come to a red traffic light the car shakes back and forth as I’m sitting waiting on the light to change. Any idea what the problem could be?

Hello, it’s hard to answer that right now

Some common causes for shaking is:

    • Engine is not running on all cylinders / Misfire( Check trouble codes/engine light)
    • Bad engine mount bushes
    • Unbalanced Flywheel ( If manual/mekatronic gearbox )

If you open the hood when the car is on idle, can you see if the engine is shaking a lot? Could be caused by a misfire.
Easiest way to solve this is:

Push the engine forward and backward hard to see if the engine mounts are OK.
Check trouble codes for any misfires or fuel/spark codes
