Engine knock after replacing spark plugs 2005 Kia Sedona

Asked by: 26 views Noises Question

Hi, I got the spark plugs replaced for my 2005 Kia Sedona minivan as regular maintenance, but immediately after that, the engine started making loud knocking noise and shuddering.
The car was regularly maintained and just had oil change and routine inspection about 1 week ago. And the NGK spark plugs definitely fits the car. Could you please give me some idea what might caused the noise? Thank you so much!

    No good idea right there.

Check the plugs and make sure that the lengths of them are 100% the same, so the plug has not touched the pistons.

If you have separate spark cables/coils, you can put them on wrong cylinders and the ignition is far way out and it can make it knock very hard. Make sure that the spark cables/coils are going to the right cylinder.

Thank you so much! I compared the old spark plugs from the engine with the new one installed, they are exactly the same. The spark plugs and coils are indeed separate, I agree with you that the mechanic might connected the wrong spark coil to the wrong cylinder. Any other reason that could cause the knocking noise? Thank you!
