Ticking noise while idling Mustang gt

Asked by: 13 views Noises Question

4.6L 2008 mustang gt car is left on neutral idling and you can hear some ticking noises coming from the front near driver side tire. Any idea on what it could be ? I initially thought it was a lifter but not 100% positive.

It could absolutely be a lifter that is ticking. It could be caused by a bad lifter/wrong adjustment if a solid lifter, or air inside the lifter.
Make sure the engine oil level is okay and rev the engine up to around 3000-4000rpm for a while to see if it’s getting better.

Sounds can be hard to locate. Normally I’m using a stethoscope to locate noises easily. Many workshops have them and you can ask if you can lend any, or Amazon has them here:
