Oil pressure gauge not working Chevy impala 3.4

I have a 2004 chevy impala with a 3.4 v6. I swapped out the gauge cluster from a 3.8 that has an oil pressure gauge. The oil pressure gauge does not work. Can I put an oil sending unit from a 3.8 into my 3.4 to make it work? Or is there something else that needs to be done to make the oil pressure gauge work?

  1. In modern cars, the most oil pressure sensors are going via the ECU first

Sensor -> Engine control unit -> Instrument cluster

If the engine control unit is the same part number as the other engine, it should be possible to recode it.

You have to tell the ECU that the engine is using a pressure sensor.
