Crankshaft oil seal leak 2003 Chevy Cavalier 2.2

Asked by: 17 views Engine Oil Question

I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier with the 2.2l ecotec DOHC engine at approx. 120,000kms.
My issue? The front crankshaft oil seal broke and car was driven a very short distance before the problem was noticed, allowing the engine to be very low on oil. Anyway, replaced the seal and all good EXCEPT now there is a ticking noise coming from, what seems to be, the top of the engine. Pulled valve cover and timing chain looks tight and good. No other obvious problems under valve cover.. Ideas?
Hoping not a main bearing!
Thanks

Depending on how far you drove with too low of oil. If you were without any oil pressure it is a chance that something got damaged.

But in my experience, a car that has been driven by low oil is getting air into the hydrualic lifters fast.

If your problem is air in the hydrualic lifters, you can try to rev it up to 3000-4000 rpms until the oil gets really hot. Can also try to replace oil if it’s old!

    Any videos of the sound?
