Why won’t my car start? Chevrolet Cavalier

I have a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier that will only start when the key is turned all the way and held in the same position for at least a few seconds. I tried replacing the ignition lock cylinder, I already spent so much money on starters for this car and it keeps having the same problem.

Once I do get the car started, I usually don’t even have the problem for the rest of the day and that’s the weird part. I took the car to a mechanic to get the ignition lock cylinder replaced and he did mention something about the theft system coming on but I never noticed it being on.

I’m at a total loss on what to do. I spent so much on this car and it just keeps on giving me the same problem…

  1. Yes, your mechanic could be right, is there any aftermarket anti-theft system installed in the car? If there is, get it removed to try if that is the fault. Aftermarket anti-theft systems do cause a lot of problems in car, so I do recommend to remove it anyways!
